EQUALIZING AMONGST THE STARS

Brenda Bernardett Finlayson AKA EQ, fifth of seven children. Born January 14, under the birth sign of Capricorn. Born into the humble family of Delsie Pierce and Lenard Finlayson. of Sterling district in Westmoreland. Located within the lush green foothills of coffee country mountain. Home to the indigenous people of Maroon Sovereign State of 21st century new Jamaica.

Her traditional approach to education started at home. Before attending Grange Hill Private primary and high school before her God given talent was unleashed to Jamaica's world renowned cabalistic and organic brand of roots rocking liberating reggae music. Young Brenda Finlayson as new musical sensation was discovered the very first evening, she performed her most trendy rendition of Mary had a little lamb at her primary school concert. Since then she began growing steadily and by her tender age of 13, she was already a confident and repeated well noted performer at community events and particularly at the Baptist church where her mother plays lead vocalist on the choir. 

Her main success story is reoccurring from these popular events would often prove her recipients of numerous awards and cash contributions at major teen talent completions. As if her maroon ancestors had opened the pearly gates to stardom now that her school teacher had introduced her to the entertainment manager of well noted guess house to be guess performer on their live entertainment cabaret show. It was those stunning performances that commence the token to her gainful employment in the pulsating Jamaica reggae industry.

Following traditional vain of reggae music bloodline some eighteen months later, Tuff Gang Recording studio, (home of legendary Bob Marley) found short of extinguishing background vocals when EQ was joined with another young singing sensation by the name of Grace. Maximizing satisfaction achieved from that background vocal experience stimulates the need to improve their unified music endeavor to be joined with yet another vibrant young female artist, Elsa. The three young girls formed a vibrant trio that stormed popular music entertainment circuits in the parish.

Their fast-growing popularity forged an introduction into the parish's major singing group. "The Itals" who strongly recommended their sharp migration to Kingston's big city experience in 1994, the same year the trio entered national tastes talent expo. To which the group got a third-place award. The new energy burst of virgin talent drew the attention of ace reggae music pop producer, Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar, who later named Brenda, EQ, meaning equalizing sweet sounds.

Subsequently EQ lead her group to a recording contract with producer sly and Robbie of exclusive reggae music label, TAXI. for three songs. "I love you for many reasons", “Dance little lady dance”, “Sweeter he is”. That formed a string of other locally produced songs that slowly became the house hold name in the cream of Jamaica's social commentary that was responsible for the historic and organic budding of her rich solo career.

Here brave and courageous introduction to male oriented reggae music trade speaks to her many successes in background vocal engagements and combination songs recorded with name brands of Jamaica's music greats like John Holt, Bunny Wailers, Earnest Wilson, and Paul Elliot, not to mention. Her spectacular background vocals featured in Gregory Isac's 2000 Grammy nominated album. Her star-studded career truly took the turn for excellence when a San Francisco Red Stripe bear distributer signed a three-dimensional branding promotional video contract resulting EQ branding song entitled "Every little thing deh a Kingston town."

Featured in annual Billboard magazine TV radio and cable network the year 2003-2006. Her continuous quest for greater meaning to her rich humanitarian trait reveres in other acting engagements as she had later featured in a full length movie entitled "Roots Time" Be on the lookout for her impactful roots rock reggae performance in your town or listen to her soothing single, "Do you know what it is to be a woman" Her new and upcoming album, "Nana EQ" is still recommended breath taking reggae music video CD product.
